Midget AA Hockey Hounds – Hounds continue successful run!
The Hounds had a successful weekend taking in 3 points total with a 9 to 5 win over Brooks on Saturday and a 4-4 tie with Calgary Rangers in Calgary on Sunday.
On Saturday Matt Rypien opened the scoring. Alex Barthel and Jonathon Zdan scored twice for the Hounds while Justin Meier, Jay Hollingsworth, Todd Meheden and Austin Weersink also added singles.
Jay Hollingsworth’s goal was short-handed and he added 3 helpers for a 4 point game. Carson Huculak assisted on two goals while Parker Smith had one assist. Blake Alexander was in gold in the net for the win and stopped 25 shots.
On Sunday Alex Barthel scored two goals being assisted by teammates Todd Meheden and Jay Hollingsworth . Austin Weersink scored once assisted by Austin Huculak (affiliate) and Jonathon Zdan added a single unassisted. Garet Burton had a stellar game against the Rangers who are in 2nd place in the North Division, only posting one loss this season. Garet made 41 saves.
The Hounds are in third place in the South Division only 4 points out of the lead.
The Hounds next action is against the Red Deer Elks on Saturday and Bow Valley Timberwolves on Sunday. Both games on home ice at Henderson.
AA Midget Hounds – Saturday January 7th game
The LAA Midget AA Hounds tied Calgary’s CRAA Blue 3-3 on Saturday at a home game. Scoring for the Hounds were Alex Barthel, Jonathon Zdan and Matthew Rypien. Todd Meheden, Jay Hollingsworth and Parker Smith added assists.
Midget AA Hounds update – Hounds play over the Christmas break
The Hounds were 1-1 last week as they were scheduled for a few games during the Christmas break. They travelled to Cranbrook on Wednesday and ended up 5-3 loss with Cam Windle, George Druhan and Jay Hollingsworth scoring for the Hounds. Shaun Kern, Todd Meheden and Carson Huculak assisted on the goals. Blake Alexander was in net for loss.
On Thursday the Hounds played in Taber to a 4-1 win with Alex Barthel opening up the scoring at 17:03 in the second scoring two goals in the second period. Todd Meheden, Tanner Shirikawa and Justin Meier assisted on the goals.
The Golden Suns’ Tyler Van Vaerenbergh scored two minutes into the third period to make it a 2-1 game. George Druhan added a goal at 12:01 in the third period and Matt Rypien added an open net goal at 1:32 of the third period to clinch the win for the Hounds. Carson Huculak, Parker Smith and Justin Mitchell added assists.
Garet Burton was in goal for the win.
The Hounds remain in 2nd place in the South Division.
The Hounds next home game is January 7, 2012 at 7:30 against Calgary CRAA Blue at Henderson.

LAA Midget AA Hounds are having a fundraiser for the two Midget AA boys that passed away recently in Alberta. It is going to be Saturday from 11:30 to 4:00, at Henderson Arena. $5.00 for a bowl of chilli with bun, all funds will be going to their memorial fund.
Midget AA Hounds split their weekend
The Hounds hit the road this past weekend and posted a 1-1 record. On Saturday afternoon, Alex Barthel opened the scoring in the first period with a short-handed goal assisted by Parker Smith.
Barthel scored two more times for the Hounds in the second period assisted by Jay Hollingsworth and Levi Baker. Tanner Shirakawa assisted on the third goal. Carson Huculak also scored in the second period assisted by Matt Rypien and Baker. The third period Jay Hollingsworth scored assisted by Joey Slawson and Rypien. Garet Burton earned the shut out in net.
Sunday the Hounds lost a 7-0 decision against the Sylvan Lake Lakers, the first place team in the North division. Blake Alexander took the loss in net.
The Hounds are in second place in the South division and play four more games before a Christmas break. Next weekend the Hounds face off against the Foothills Bisons in Claresholm on Saturday.
Midget AA Hounds – tourney results
The Hounds played in the Olds Tournament this past weekend and posted a record of 1-1-2.
Alex Barthel and Cam Windle opened the scoring in the first game on Friday against the KC Colts while Blake Alexander took the loss in net. In the win against the Edmonton Oil Kings Jonathan Zdan put in two goals while Parker Smith, Jaylen Twigg, Justin Maier, Tanner Shirakawa and Justin Mitchell all added singles to the 7-5 win. Garet Burton took the win in net.
A 5-5 tie with Encor Thunder on Saturday saw goals from Jay Hollingsworth, Carson Huculak, Shaun Kern, Levi Baker and Twigg. Blake Alexander was in net for the tie. The Sunday morning game against Taber ended in a tie in regulation with Taber winning in the shoot out. Scoring for the Hounds on Sunday was Jonathan Zdan and Todd Meheden in regulation. In the shoot out Barthel, Hollingsworth and Weersink scored. Garet Burton was in net.
The Hounds took in a league game against CRAA Midget Gold Sunday night in Calgary with Weersink being the lone goal scorer for the Hounds. Blake Alexander took the loss in net.
The Hounds are on the road again this weekend with games in Cochrane against the Bow Valley Timberwolves and in Sylvan Lake on Sunday against the Sylvan Lake Lakers.

Midget AA Hockey Hounds lead the South Division!
The Hockey Hounds now have a 7-4-3 record and lead the South division!
Two wins over the weekend brought the team 4 well earned points.
A win against NWCAA Bruins on Saturday with a 6-2 win. Jay Hollingsworth brought home the hat-trick while Justin Mitchell, Matt Rypien and Alex Barthel added singles.
On Sunday the Hounds doubled the Foothills Bisons 6-3 with Hollingsworth, Barthel, Mitchell scoring as well Justin Meier, Jaylen Twigg and Jonathon Zdan rounded up the scoring.
The Hounds are off next weekend and then head to tournament action in Olds on November 24th.
Midget AA Hockey Hounds
The Midget AA Hockey Hounds have played eight games and have a 3-4-1 record to date. The Hounds did not score any points on opening weekend but played to a loss with Wheatland Chiefs of 5-3 and 5-0 loss to CBHA Blackhawks on the road.
The next weekend the Hounds won a 4-2 match again the NWCAA Stamps and lost a 5-3 game against Medicine Hat. The following weekend with a rematch against the Hat the Hounds came away with 3-2 win.
This past weekend the Hounds managed 3 out of 4 possible points with a 5-4 win over the Innisfail Flyers on Saturday and a 2-2 tie with Airdrie Lightning on Sunday.
This weekend the Hounds will face the Lacombe Rockets in a home game and head to Brooks on Sunday.
Midget AA update
The Hardy team meeting tomorrow night is cancelled and the parent meeting on Wednesday is cancelled due to the team not being finalized.
