M15′s

Thursday, Jan 27th the M15′s won a home game 4-1 against the NWCAA Stampeders.  In net for the Canes was David Rupp.  Scoring for the Canes were Clay Spencer(2), Austin
Howe,and Kolton Kostelansky.  All goals were assisted with assists going to Gray Marr, Carter Hansen, Kolton Kostelansky(2), Austin Howe and Austin Weersink.

The M15′s went on the road to Red Deer, Sat., Jan 29th and won 5-1 over the Red Deer Northstar Chiefs.  In goal for the Canes with 33 saves was Tyson Brouwer.  Credit for goals in the 1st period go to Austin Howe, Jonathan Zdan, Matthew Rypein with assists going to Kolton Kostelansky, Justin Meier, Carter Hansen, Dawsen Lane and Parker Smith.  The 2nd period the Canes remaining 2 goals were scored by Clay Spencer and Justin Mitchell, assists going to Gray Marr and Carter Hansen.

Sat, Feb 12th the Canes continued their winning streak by defeating the CNHA Canucks 4-1 at Henderson.  David Rupp was in goal and the first period was scoreless.  Goals in the 2nd period went to Ryer Sawchuk assisted by Kolton Kostelansky and Shaun Kern and the 2nd goal to Gray Marr unassisted.  Ryer Sawchuk and Austin Weersink scored goals 3 and 4 in the 3rd with assists going to Gray Marr, Joey Ratts, Kolton Kostelansky and Carter Hansen.

The Canes winning streak was broken Sunday, Feb. 13th but they managed a 1-1 tie with the CNHA Blazers at Henderson.  With Tyson Brouwer in net, Clay Spencer tied the game in period 2 with the assist going to Shaun Kern.

Sat. Feb 19:  The first of 2 home games this weekend was won by the M15′s against the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds 4-3.  In net with 30 saves was Tyson Brouwer.  Period one ended in a 1-1 tie with Austin Weersink grabbing the goal assisted by Carter Hansen.  Period 2 saw the Canes getting the go ahead goal by Jordan Weist assisted by Jonathan Zdan and Justin Mitchell.  Period 3 the Hounds and Canes took turns scoring back and forth with Gray Marr putting in a goal unassisted and Jonathan Zdan adding the winning goal assisted by Austin Weersink and Shaun Kern.

Family Day saw the M15′s continue their home game winning streak defeating the Red Deer North Star Chiefs 6-1.  David Rupp was in net for the Canes with 28 saves.  Scoring for the Canes were Clay Spencer(2), Kolton Kostelansky, Logan Wakaluk, Justin Mitchell and Jonathan Zdan.  Assists were credited to Gray Marr(2), Matthew Rypein(2), Austin Weersink, Joey Ratts(3), Parker Smith, Clay Spencer, Logan Wakaluk and Justin Mitchell.

Midget AA Hurricanes Win ‘B’ Final at Regina Prairie Cup

The Lethbridge Midtown Auto Care AA Midget Hurricanes traveled to Regina this past weekend to compete in the Regina Prairie Cup. A total of 20 teams participated in 4 pools at the new Cooperators Centre in Regina.

Lethbridge barely missed out on their first game against Edmonton Northside Mitsubishi with a loss of 6 – 5. Connor Gross topped the Lethbridge scoring with 1 goal and 3 assists, followed by Brandon Paul with 1 goal and 2 assists. Alex Barthel knocked in 2 goals and Jalen Twigg had 1 with Mitch Thomas working between the pipes.

Lethbridge then went on to easily beat the Regina Scouts 7 – 0. Mitch Makin and Alex Barthel tapped in 2, with singles from Brandon Paul, Cam Windle and Connor Gross. Adam Weersink was in net for the shut out.

The Hurricanes then went on to face the Klondike Cyclones NW231 and came out with a 6-4 victory. Brandon Paul had a hat trick, Alex Barthel scored 2, and Connor Gross came in with 1 for the Hurricanes. Mitch Thomas was in net for the win.

Lethbridge then faced the Regina Rockies in their first Playoff round and came out with a resounding 11-0 win. Alex Barthel netted a hat trick, Connor Gross, Jalen Twigg and Mitch Makin both had 2 and Brandon Paul and Dirk De Waal tapped in one for the win. Adam Weersink had his second shutout of the tourney.

In the ‘B’ Final game Lethbridge faced off against the Edmonton KC Sabres. Final score was 6-3 with Lethbridge bringing home the ‘B’ Final trophy. Brandon Paul netted 4 goals, Connor Gross 1 and Mackenzie Klatt 1 for the win and Adam Weersink was again in net for the win.

It was a great weekend for the Hurricanes who now have 2 games left in their regular season before heading into playoffs and then off to Midget AA Minor Provincials in Peace River March 24-27.

Val matteotti Golden Hawk Update Weekend February 5th and 6th

The Val Matteotti Golden Hawks played in a couple of close games last week but unfortunately came out on the wrong end losing 5-3 to Medicine Hat on February 2nd. Scoring for Lethbridge were Dillon Collett, Mathew Nadeau, and Laramie Kostelanksy. On Sunday the Hawks travelled to Okotoks and went down to defeat 4-2. Braydon Jetten and Zachary Wall provided the scoring for Lethbridge. This week is the final week of the regular season for the Hawks and it sees them travelling to Medicine Hat on Thursday to take on the Hockey Hounds and on Sunday they will close out the regular season against the Calgary Royals at the Max Bell in Calgary.
