Val Matteotti Eagles at Christmas Break with 7-9-2 Record
After last weekends 1-1 record, the Val Matteotti Pee Wee AA Eagles sit with a 7-9-2 record, good for 3rd place in the South Division of the SCAHL.
The Eagles started the weekend off with a 5-o shutout over the Taber Golden Suns on Friday night. Lethbridge scored at the 8:11 mark when Grayson Constable scored on the powerplay on a setup by Sam Paskuski. The lead was extended to 3-0 by the end of the second period. Scoring in the second for the Eagles was Constable and Tyler Anderson. Adian Peacock and Turner Ohno assisted on Anderson’s goal. The Eagles made it 4-0 when Kason Furukawa scored on a shot from the point. With 4:32 left in the third Adian Peacock scored on a pass out front by Anderson to make it the 5-0 final. Also assisting on the play was Colton Wuerfel. Matt Lukacs was in net and faced 25 shots to earn the shutout for the Eagles.
The second game saw the Eagles fall to the Bow Valley Timberwolves 17-3. Scoring for Lethbridge was Constable, Anderson and Quinn Gundlock. Assists went to Anderson and Paskuski on the last goal. Matt Lukacs and Brendon Morden shared the goaltending duties and faced 56 shots in total.
Val Matteotti Godlen Hawks Weekend Update December 11th and 12th
The Val Matteotti Golden Hawks were at home for a pair of games this weekend. On Saturday they played the Calgary Bronks, losing a close game 3-1. Jace Jurgens scored the only goal for the Hawks and Aspen Petrie made 33 saves in net. On Sunday the Hawks finally put one in the win column again, beating the Red Deer Black 3-2 in a come from behind victory. Laramie Kostelansky had a pair of goals and Kaede Norlin provided the other marker. Jonathan Hogue made 34 saves in the victory. The Hawks play at home on Sunday against Red Deer White. Game time is at 12pm at Henderson Arena.
BANTAM AA HURRICANES NOTCH WEEKEND WIN
Last weekend the Lethbridge Bantam AA Hurricanes played a single match at home eventually earning a convincing 6-2 victory over the struggling Brooks Stitch FX Outlaws, who are winless in their last nine.
Hurricanes defenseman Jason Wegner started the scoring midway through the opening period with assists going to Robert Milojovic and Andrew Thompson. Shortly after, Bryce Deboer scored a beauty to give his club a two goal lead at the first intermission with assists credited to Kenny Thomas and Logan Ramsdell.
Thomas continued to roll with a highlight-reel-worthy goal early in the second, unassisted. The visitors responded with back to back markers to pull within one. Thomas replied again for the Hurricanes with his second of the game with 28 seconds left in the period, with assist going to Ramsdell.
In the final frame, Brady Parenteau restored the Hurricanes three goal cushion with assist going to Devin Ruff, and Ramsdell sealed the deal with an empty net tally assisted by Joey Slawson.
Hurricane goaltender Logan Rowley faced 29 shots to tke the 6-2 victory between the pipes.
Next up this Friday, the Hurricanes are off to Duchess to again face Brooks, then back at home on Sunday to take on the Airdrie Lightning.
Val Matteotti Golden Hawks Weekend Update December 4-5
The Val Matteotti Golden Hawks travelled North on the weekend playing in Camrose on Saturday Night. The Hawks played the Camrose Kodiaks to a 1-1 tie. Scoring the lone goal for the Hawks was Laramie Kostelansky. Aspen Petrie turned away 29 shots to preserve the single point. On Sunday the Hawks travelled to Lloydminster where they fell 6-2 to the Heat. Scoring for the Hawks were Cavin Leth and Joel Lewis. The Hawks are home for a pair of home games this weekend playing the Calgary Bronks at 5pm on Saturday and Red Deer Black on Sunday at 2:30pm. Both games are at the Henderson Arena.
Pee Wee AA Val Matteotti Eagles Play Two Exhibition Games on Weekend
The Pee Wee AA Val Matteotti Eagles played two exhibition games over the past weekend against the Bow Valley Flames from Calgary.
Saturday saw the Eagles lose by a 4-3 score. Lethbridge scored the lone goal of the first period twelve minutes in when Grayson Constable took a shot that caught the far top corner on the Flames net. Setting up the play from the defensive zone was Aidan Peacock. Bow Valley stormed back in the second scoring two early goals on the powerplay and a late goal while the teams were playing 4 on 4. With 6:40 left in the third Constable put the puck through the goalies legs to pull the Eagles back to within one. Blake Kleiner assisted on the play. The Flames regained the two goal lead with 2:21 left but the Eagles did score a late goal with the extra attacker and while on the powerplay when Constable completed the hat trick with only 1 second left on the clock. Assists went to Tyler Anderson and Sam Paskuski. The shots in the game were even at 32 apiece. In net for the Eagles was Matt Lukacs.
The second game started out with a scoreless first period. By midway through the second frame the Bow Valley Flames had taken a 2-0 lead. The Eagles tied the game with two goals across a five minute span. Opening the scoring for Lethbridge was Colton Wuerfel who put the puck in on the short side on a play set up by Anderson. Kleiner tied the game at 2-2 on the powerplay with assists to Isiah Day Chief and Quinn Gundlock. Calgary was able to regain a 3-2 lead before the period was out. The Flames were able to add two more powerplay markers in the third to take a 5-2 win. In net for the Eagles was Brendon Morden who faced 28 shots. The Eagles managed 22 shots on the Bow Valley net.
Midget AA Hurricanes Weekend Review
The Midget AA Hurricanes came out of the weekend with 2 wins on the road.
They faced off against the Bow Valley Timberwolves Saturday with a 9 – 5 win.
Connor Gross contributed a hat trick and Brandon Paul a pair with Jamie Schimanski, Mitch Makin, Reese Graham and Cam Windle tacking on singles for the resounding win. Mitchell Thomas met over 50 shots on net for the win.
Sunday’s game was a close match up against the Calgary CNHA Canucks. Lethbridge Midget AA Hurricanes came out on top with a 2-1 win.
Jamie Schimanski and Dirk de Waal were the scorers and Adam Weersink was between the pipes taking 30 shots on net for the win.
M15 LAA Hurricanes
The M15 LAA Hurricanes had back to back games in Calgary over the weekend. Sat. Dec 4th they met up with the CBHA Rangers and were defeated 8-4. All 4 Canes goals were scored in Period 2. Goals were scored by Clay Spencer, Joey Raats, Ryer Sawchuk and Jonathan Zdan. Assists went to Gray Marr, Austin Howe(2), Kolton Kostelansky, Ryer Sawchuk and Logan Wakaluk. Sun. Dec. 5th the M15′s had a better outcome against the CBHA Blackhawks by winning 4-3. Two goals were scored in Period1 by Matthew Rypien and Logan Wakaluk. In Period 2 the remaining two goals were scored by Ryer Sawchuk and Clay Spencer. Assists went to Ryer Sawchuk, Carter Hansen, Dawson Lane(2), Clay Spencer and Gray Marr. Next action for the Canes is Fri., Dec. 10th at Henderson vs. Keystone Raiders and Sat. Dec. 11 at Max Bell vs. CNHA Canucks.
Lethbridge M15′s
After the Lethbridge M15′s placed 5th in the prospects Cup Tournament in Chestermere the weekend of Nov. 20th, the Hurricanes came back to Henderson on Fri.,Nov 26th to meet the CBHA Rangers. The Rangers came off with the win 6-3. Scoring for the Canes were Jonathan Zdan, Cavin Leth and Logan Wakaluk with assists going to Austin Weersink, Justin Meier, Matthew Rypien(2), and Cavin Leth.
Sat., Nov. 27th the M15′s pulled off a 3-1 win over the CRAA Gold at Max Bell. Scoring for the Canes were Grey Marr, unassisted and Shaun Kern and Austin Howe assisted by Dawson Lane, Austin Howe and Matthew Rypien (2). The Hurricanes next action is a double header in Calgary vs. CBHA Rangers and CBHA Blackhawks on Dec. 4th and 5th.
